i love, love, love this book! my sister-in-law gave it to me for my birthday and i in turn ordered it for her and another sister-in-law for their birthdays! it has GREAT tips (even for those of you who think you are doing a pretty good job with your makeup already) - and it also turned me on to a few bobbi brown products that i will now NEVER go without! i am a mother of two young boys and although i'm in my 20's i am constantly exhausted and could not hide the dark circles under my eyes. this book (and the concealer and brightener i purchased after reading it) have helped me to look so much more AWAKE and younger. the only thing i wish it had were even more tips for different ways of doing your eyes, but it is definitely worth the money and i will hold on to it forever!

Most makeup books focus on the glamor side of makeup and overlook the professional, natural look that is timeless. This book really gives you simple, easy to execute ideas for both every day applications, as well as evening applications. I own this book myself and have given one to my daughter, daughter-in-law, and grand daughter who just turned 16. I am 68 years old, still working, and this is the best, easy to follow book I have ever seen.

This is a very nice book, easy to understand. From very basic like what's each brush for, how to take care of your skin, and different people (race wise) how to apply makeup in each area; also the book talked about how to become a professional makeup artist. Overall it's a very handy book, I'd recommend to others, especially for people just started to use makeup

Loved it! The pictures and illustrations made me want to go out and buy more makeup. Great detail on application. Even though I read lots of articles and books on makeup application, I still learned plenty. As always, the quality of the photographs in Bobbi's books did not disappoint. It can definitely be used as a reference manual.

This is a great book for teaching you how to use skin and makeup products in a way that looks fabulous. It teaches you step by step, everything from cleanser to mascara. I didn't think technique mattered that much, but obviously it does! All my coworkers complimented me the first day I used the ideas from this book. And that was just with items I had on hand. I then purchased some products from Bobbi Brown, and they are fantastic. This book taught me how to look like a professional.

I've read/own all of Bobbi Browns books. This book is by far my favorite. The book is loaded with information & great photography too.The number one reason I love this book starts on page 24, Chapter 3. "Beautiful Skin begins with a healthy lifestyle". Bobbi Brown "gets it". She knows and promotes the simple facts of eating the right foods, exercise, hydration, protection, and avoiding toxins is what provides you with beautiful skin & a healthy body.Her step by step instructions for make up application is an excellent tool. I love the charts for color selections. She shares her wealth of information regarding aging beauty, dark circles, eye brows, you name it, she covers it.The best book for makeup. Worth the investment of time & money.

I love all the colors and pictures in this book---- it's very concise, but covers all the main points. Perhaps it is over-simplified... but I think simple is really BB's mantra... so it fits in. I'm Asian, so I really appreciated how she put in specific instructions for Asians (as well as other ethnicities)... you'd be surprised at how few books even MEntion people of color. So HUGE kudos for that. One word of warning: if you buy this book, seeing all her beautiful makeup products in photo-perfect quality WILL make you involuntarily (well, voluntarily actually) migrate to the nearest BB counter to get your hands on them!! ... just be aware ... =P

When I first received this book, I almost thought it seemed like a review of Bobbi's other books. I am glad (and chastising myself!) that I was wrong! This book has excellent advice, tips, and no fail ideas for amping up your look. Even if you think you are already pretty accomplished with makeup, all of us can- and should- continue learning! I am glad I ordered one. I found the history of makeup totally riveting.

so i was just exploring through Barnes & Nobels one day because i was in the mood to look at books and it caught my attention that they have makeup books there and so i came across Bobbi Browns Makeup Manual and it was so detailed and useful i was in the store reading with fascination about all the stuff it could teach you, i was in the store looking at it for a couple of hours. that book is definately recommended, i mean if you want to learn so much not just about the way to put on makeup but to define it in to several looks, tips on a healthier look and a fresh clean appeal and about all the stuff you will need to know to become a pro this book will do wonders =)

I love to read about new subjects so when I saw this book all decadent in hot pink and glamorous I knew I had to at least look at it. After seeing all the beautiful and glossy images I remember that being a model was not only about poses, but about the natural angles that can be implemented through make-up. I decided sense my last shoot came short of a makeup artist I would learn how to be one myself, even if just for fun. This book has been a great inspiration and I just can’t wait to get started. I know that it’s going to be a long journey, but I’m excited. The day after I bought this book I was offered a job by a friend in starting his film business. When the business sets off I hope to have my first set and to be able to start in my new found love of makeup artistry. This book is very comprehensive and because of it I have no doubt in my mind that this is something that I can accomplish. Thank you Bobbi! <3

I have all of Bobbis previous books and I have really enjoyed them all, so I was really excited when this came out. I wasn't disappointed - it's a real treat to read for anyone interested in makeup and beauty.It's loaded with great advice and the pictures are just stunning, really beautiful.The advice is all very good and I love how Bobbi also advocates health in her books, no smoking, careful with sun exposure, a healthy diet and exercise. My mom and sister really liked to read this as well.

This book has really beautiful pictures, layouts, and is very easy to read/understand. I have found myself coming back to the book numerous times for quick tips and reminders. But I wish there were further demonstrations on features of different nationalities... Overall, Bobbi gives a great review on the basics including skincare, tools, application, and facts that would be helpful for a makeup beginner to know. But I would say this book is more for people who are just starting to use makeup or need more guidance. There is nothing new here that an average makeup user knows.

It has everything from types of brushes to nutririon, plus step by step instructions for every look possible. I've had this book for almost a year now and have gone through it several times. I truly feel I can say with confidence that it is worth having available as a guide. I think anyone can understand it and the content is clear and well written. I'm not a "real" make up artist, but I love makeup. The section for the pro was also very well written and I think would be very valuable to the up and coming artist or someone who has been in the business and wants some extra tips. Happy Reading!

I saw ads for this book in Cosmo and thought it would be a good guide book for how to do your make-up. I had initially bought it as a present for my sister but you know how sisters share things. So I read through the book and looked throught the illustrations, which were very helpful. This book was great for telling you how to apply makeup. I followed the instructions on how to apply under-eye concealer and the results were amazing. I aslo followed the instructions for creating a smokey eye, which I had been trying for forever and which had never worked. I actually was able to make a smokey eye that didn't make me look like I had smeared my mascara or had a black eye.It's kind of like having a make-up consultant but it's all in a book.I just wish they had more variety, but I guess being a multiracial girl it's hard to include how everyone should do their makeup. It would have also been nice if there were more illustrations since the ones they already had helped so much, since they showed the step by step procedures in detail.If you are looking for a manual to help you learn how to apply make-up a certain way, this is the book. It even shows how to apply eye make-up if you're Asian!

My husband bought this book as a gift for me at my request (ok, I actually begged). I sat down the first day and read it cover to cover. This is so much better than watching a video! I am constantly asking the girls at the make-up counter "how-to" questions and then I forget half of it before I even get home. At age 33, I'm a makeup novice. I really had no idea what I needed and how to put it on, and you can only get so far asking questions at the makeup counter. This book really helped fill things in for me. There were some chapters that were way beyond the basics that I wanted to learn, but maybe that just means there's something for everyone! I feel much more confident with makeup after having read and practiced, and I go back and refer to this when questions come up. Great resource!

I just got the book and am so glad I did. I have learned so much about skin and makeup that I didn't know. Sure, I could have looked through blogs and YouTube videos, but that would have been a hassle and not at all organized like the book. Honestly, I thought I knew everything about skin, I've done a lot of research the past few years and I even learned a thing or two in this book.I love how it is organized. I love the simplicity of it. It's easy to go back and use it as a reference. I love using it to help me put my makeup on. I am just obsessed with this book! I'm not a big reader either. It's helped me learn what kind of makeup I want to use on my skin and has helped me figure out what I need to buy for my makeup kit. If I could afford to, I would send this to every girl I know who is interested in makeup!
